Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a property near the junction of Chatsworth Road and Glenarm Road in Lower Clapton.

The fire was affecting a mixed-use building, made up of shops on the ground floor and flats above. A lean-to at the rear of the building was alight, along with parts of the ground, first and second floors.

The fire is now under control but the Brigade will remain on scene over the coming hours to dampen down.

There have been no reports of any injuries at this time.

People in the local area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke being produced from the fire. This advice has now been lifted.

Chatsworth Road remains closed between the junctions of Millfields Road and Homerton High Street.

The Brigade received the first of 50 calls about the fire at 2134 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Stoke Newington, Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, Tottenham and Whitechapel fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Tottenham Fire Station was also in attendance and deployed as an observation tower to provide the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the incident.

The fire was brought under control by 2246.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
