Innovating with technology.

We are committed to using technology – from vehicles to sprinklers to IT equipment – intelligently to keep Londoners safe.

What do we do?

Making best use of new technologies

We embrace new technology and are always looking for new and better ways to use it.

Our vehicles and equipment

Recent studies that show some 9,500 people die early each year in London due to long-term exposure to air pollution – and we want to reduce that. To do so, we embrace new technologies, and are currently working four key areas:

  1. Explore and expand the use of electric vehicles
  2. Explore the potential for a pilot of smaller vehicles to handle specific risks (e.g. providing response during inclement weather or responding to grass fires on difficult terrain)
  3. Undertake collaborative procurement with the Greater London Authority and other emergency services
  4. Explore a collaborative logistics function with other blue light services in London

Digital first priorities

Digital technologies offer all public services the opportunity to deliver better outcomes for local residents, businesses and communities. Our strategy for digital transformation sets out a vision and the practical steps needed to move the Brigade toward a digital future over the next ten years. We focus on:

  1. Transforming communications
  2. Using data intelligently
  3. Making the most of digital channels for our prevention work
  4. Constant evolution – always finding new and better ways

Sprinklers

The Brigade campaigned for councils and housing providers to install sprinklers as a cost-effective way of protecting lives and saving property.

We will continue to promote sprinklers as part of our fire prevention work, including supporting proposals put forward by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to ensure sprinklers are installed in more high-risk buildings.
