Community Update sessions provide the opportunity to get information from us on the 8 Albert Embankment project and on any progress with the two other LFB owned sites in the area. Below is a summary of the update delivered on Thursday 15 October 2026.

The 8 Albert Embankment Site
In October 2025 London Fire Brigade submitted a planning application to refurbish the site at 8 Albert Embankment. This work would allow the building to become our headquarters once more alongside an upgraded Lambeth Fire Station and a new facility allowing our historic collection to be displayed.
Planning permission has now been granted by London Borough of Lambeth, with construction works beginning in October 2026. The project to due for completion in 2029.
Works will start with scaffolding in the rear yard, followed by the stripping out of the building. Construction milestones will be shared with the local community as the detailed build plan is confirmed. Any disruption from noisier construction periods or increased construction vehicle movements will be kept to a minimum, with the local community informed well in advance. The local community will be able to contact the LFB Community Team and Willmott Dixon, the principal building contractor, during the construction period.
The Lambeth High Street Site
The former London Fire Brigade Vehicle Workshop at 26 Lambeth High Street was openly marketed for a lease during 2025.
The site is now occupied by Little Lion Entertainment Ltd, running Arcade Arena London from the site. This is an immersive entertainment experience and is open to the public on a bookings-only basis. This arrangement generates income from the site and supports wider activity and investment in the local area.
The Newport Street Site
The Newport Street site has returned to its intended operational use. Following the vacation of the site by its previous occupier, the Brigade will use Newport Street for operational vehicle parking to support Lambeth River Fire Station activities.
Longer-term proposals, including improvements to the site and the installing of electrical vehicle charging, will be developed and shared with local stakeholders this autumn.
The proposed layout will incorporate appropriate landscaping and boundary treatment to ensure the development integrates with the surrounding streetscape and includes planting.
