Community Updates

Community Update sessions provide the opportunity to get information from us on the progress of the planning application at 8 Albert Embankment and on any progress with the two other LFB owned sites in the area. Below is a summary of the update delivered on Thursday 4th June 2026.

Thursday 4th June session

The 8 Albert Embankment Site

In October 2025 London Fire Brigade submitted a planning application to refurbish the site at 8 Albert Embankment. This work would allow the building to become our headquarters once more alongside an upgraded Lambeth Fire Station and a new facility allowing our historic collection to be displayed.

The planning application is progressing with London Borough of Lambeth, and the expectation is that a determination will be received by early summer 2026.

The Lambeth High Street Site

The former London Fire Brigade Vehicle Workshop at 26 Lambeth High Street was openly marketed for a lease during 2025. Plans are progressing to enter into a lease with Arcade Arena London, a company established by Little Lion Entertainment Ltd. Little Lion operates immersive and live experience venues, including attractions such as The Crystal Maze.

The proposed meanwhile use is for an immersive entertainment concept. This will secure the site and reduce the ongoing security and holding costs.

The Newport Street Site

London Fire Brigade has supported the site’s current use as Urban Oasis Plants through the Vauxhall One Business Improvement District. The proposed redevelopment of 8 Albert Embankment means this area is now required for operations at Lambeth Fire Station and the River Station, specifically as space for operational vehicles and electric vehicle charging. The license for Urban Oasis Plants will end on 31 July 2026 and the space will be used for our operational vehicles from autumn 2026.

Our aim in 2026 is to submit a planning application to upgrade the site and install electric vehicle charging provision on the Newport Street site. The expectation is a determination will be received by November 2026.

The proposed layout will incorporate appropriate landscaping and boundary treatment to ensure the development integrates with the surrounding streetscape and includes planting.
