Registering your e-bike or e-scooter

for safety alerts and product recalls

Why registering your device can improve safety

Like many electrical products, e-bikes and e-scooters, or their components, may occasionally be recalled if a safety issue is identified. This can happen if a manufacturer discovers a fault that could cause overheating, battery failure or other hazards.

Registering your e-bike or e-scooter with the manufacturer allows them to contact you quickly if an important safety alert or product recall is issued.

They may ask you to stop using the product until it has been repaired, replaced or returned.

How to register your e-bike or e-scooter

Many manufacturers allow you to register your product online after purchase.

You can usually do this by:

  • visiting the manufacturer’s website
  • finding the product registration page
  • entering details such as the model number, serial number and purchase date

Some retailers may also provide registration links or instructions when you buy the product.

If your e-bike or e-scooter has a removable battery, the battery itself may also have a serial number that can be registered.

Where to find the serial number

The serial number or model number is often printed on:

  • the frame of the e-bike or e-scooter
  • the battery casing
  • the packaging or instruction manual

This information helps manufacturers identify affected products if a safety issue is discovered.

How to check if a product has been recalled

You can check for safety alerts and product recalls by:

  • visiting the manufacturer’s website
  • checking product recall notices issued by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS)
  • contacting the retailer where you purchased the product

If you become aware that your device has been recalled, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer or retailer.

What to do if your battery or charger is recalled

If a recall affects your device or battery:

  • stop using the product immediately
  • follow the manufacturer’s instructions
  • arrange repair, replacement or return if required

Don’t continue to use a battery or charger that has been identified as unsafe.
