ChargeSafe

campaign

Our ChargeSafe campaign is intended to raise awareness of the risks around lithium-ion batteries used in e-bikes and e-scooters, and educate the public on how to reduce the risk.

We use social media, newsletters, posters and partnership working to spread the word.

Our current focus

Gig economy riders, who use e-bikes (often modified with conversion kits) for their work, are a key audience for us. You may have seen our firefighters out and about talking to delivery drivers about the risks, and distributing leaflets in multiple languages. We’re also calling on the likes of Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo to do more to share awareness about the risks directly with their riders.

Other organisations and groups, such as local authorities, housing associations, landlords and universities and colleges are also urged to help spread awareness. Firefighters are available to support this work. Where possible, they’re encouraged to take practical steps to help reduce the risk, including providing safe places for storage or appropriate charging facilities.
