Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters responded to a flat fire on Medway Street in Westminster.

Half of a second-floor flat was damaged by fire and part of a flat on the third floor was also damaged. Firefighters carried out a search of the building and brought a man to safety via an internal staircase who was assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of nine calls to the fire at 1606 and sent crews from Battersea, Lambeth, Soho, Clapham and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1808.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
