Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Leytonstone High Road.
The fire occurred in a residential block of five floors, with a second-floor balcony damaged by flames. One woman had left the property prior to crews arriving and was treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service. They were later taken to hospital for further treatment.
The incident was first reported to Brigade control officers at 1951, with crews from Leytonstone, Stratford, Leyton and Homerton fire stations mobilised to the scene. Firefighters were able to bring the incident under control by 2032.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Team.
