Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire on Geoff Cade Way, mile End.
The fire was located in a seven room second floor flat, in a residential block of six floors. Part of the flat was destroyed by fire, and there are no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was first called about the fire at 1927, and crews from Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell and Bethnal Green fire stations were sent to the scene. Crews had the incident under control by 2008.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental, caused by combustible materials left on a halogen hob.
