Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat above a takeaway restaurant on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park.

The flat on the second floor and roof were completely destroyed by fire. Part of the ground and first floor were also damaged by the blaze. Around eight people were evacuated by firefighters.

One man jumped from the first floor before the Brigade arrived. He was treated on scene for minor injuries by London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

Station Commander Adam Lawson was at the scene, he said: "Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

"There was very heavy traffic and motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area. The Seven Sisters Road is closed between Holloway Road and Finsbury Park station."

The Brigade's 999 Control officers received the first of nine calls at 1552. They deployed crews from Holloway, Stoke Newington, Hornsey and surrounding fire stations. The fire was under control by 2025.

The cause of the fire is due to combustible items being kept too close to a heat source.
