Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tacked a fire at a house on Ballards Road in Dagenham.
Most of a loft conversion was destroyed by the fire. There are no reports of any injuries.
One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene to help fight the fire from above.
Control Officers took eight calls regarding the fire, the first of which was received at 2303. Crews from Dagenham, Wennington, Ilford and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. The fire was under control by 2345.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
