Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended a fire at a block of flats near Homerton Road in Homerton.

Most of a ground-floor flat in a four-storey building was damaged by fire. The exterior facade of a first-floor flat was also partially damaged. One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Brigade received the first of 20 calls about the fire at 1014 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Leyton, Leytonstone, Bethnal Green and Stratford fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 1056.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
