Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended a grass fire near South End Road in Rainham.
Approximately three hectares of woods and scrubland was alight. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade received the first of 12 calls about the fire at 1800 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Barking, Harold Hill, East Ham and Dagenham fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 1956.
