Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended a grass fire on Horsenden Lane North in Greenford.

Multiple seats of fire within an area of approximately one hectare of grass and shrubland were extinguished. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade received the first of six calls about the fire at 1635 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Wembley, Ealing, Northolt, Park Royal, Acton and Harrow fire stations to the scene.

A Terrain Support Vehicle from Feltham Fire Station also attended. The vehicle provides off-road capability enabling the transportation of additional equipment closer to fires on open ground. Each vehicle carries approximately 475 litres of water, a backpack blower, ear defenders, beaters and misting lance technology, which allows firefighters to pump water and drive, enabling them to tackle grass fires more quickly and safely.

The fire was brought under control by 1809.

Grass fire and wildfire prevention tips

  • Don't have barbecues (including disposable ones) in parks and public spaces. Take a picnic instead.
  • Take extra care to ensure cigarettes are put right out and disposed of safely - don’t drop cigarettes onto dry ground or throw them from car windows.
  • Take rubbish/litter home with you bins are full or none are available.
  • Glass bottles and other clear materials can start fires if left in direct sunlight. Make sure you don’t leave any glass bottles lying around in parks and open spaces.
