Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to a fire on Newquay Road, Bellingham.
The fire was located at the rear of two adjoining residential streets. The gardens of six properties on Newquay Road and four properties on Arran Road were involved in the fire. One shed, lengths of fencing and some shrubbery were destroyed by the fire.
The Brigade received the first of 20 calls reporting the fire at 1334, and crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, Lee Green and surrounding stations have been sent to the scene. Firefighters had the incident under control by 1510.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
