Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to flooding on Old Ford Road in Bow.

The flooding was caused by a water main that burst outside a pub. The surrounding area was flooded up to a depth of one metre.

Firefighters used flood barriers and sandbags to divert flood water away from homes and water levels subsided overnight.

Five people were assisted from the pub by firefighters.

Up to 650 households were affected by a loss of power, water or gas overnight. Some local infrastructure was also impacted. Thames Water is providing updates on its website

The Brigade worked alongside Thames Water and Tower Hamlets Council to set up a rest centre for affected residents.

A road closure remains in place on Old Ford Road whilst repairs are carried out by Thames Water. Traffic disruption can be expected on surrounding roads, including St Stephen's Road and Roman Road.

The Brigade was first called about the incident at 2228 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Bethnal Green, Homerton, Whitechapel, Poplar, Shadwell and Millwall fire stations to the scene. A drone was also deployed by the Brigade, providing the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the incident.

The Brigade left the scene by 0330.
