Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Australia Road in Shepherd's Bush.

Half of a ground-floor flat was damaged by fire, as well as half of a bin store room and a small part of the external fascia. Around 40 people were evacuated from surrounding flats as a precaution due to a gas leak. Three people were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of 13 calls to the incident at 0518 and sent crews from Hammersmith, Paddington, North Kensington and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The incident was under control by 0701.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
