Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a flat fire on Ordnance Road, Enfield.

The fire occurred in a low-rise residential block of three floors. A four roomed flat on the first floor was destroyed by the fire. A man was rescued from a balcony by crews using a ladder, and a woman was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance for treatment. Around 20 people left the building before crews arrived.

The Brigade was first called about the incident at 1859, and crews from Enfield and Edmonton fire stations were sent to the scene. Firefighters had the incident under control by 2009.

The fire is believed to have been accidental, caused by the failure of a lithium battery.
