If there’s been a chimney fire at your property place a metal bucket, half filled with water, in the fireplace to catch any falling debris. Keep the fireguard in place. Leave the bucket and fireguard in place for at least 24 hours.
Before using your fireplace again, make sure your chimney has been swept.
Remember – always fit a carbon monoxide detector in any room where solid fuels are used.
