Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire on Cottrill Gardens in Hackney.
Station Commander Wayne Bloomfield, who attended the scene, said: "Firefighters worked hard in hot weather to tackle this fire in Hackney.
"The fire affected a static caravan, two scrap cars and a 25 metre embankment along a train line, as well as three sheds and some fencing. The fire also caused a small amount of damage to two mid terraced houses and a garage. Nine people left two properties before the Brigade arrived. There are no reports of any injuries.
"As a precaution, power to the train line was isolated whilst firefighting was ongoing."
The fire is believed to have been caused by the ignition of dried vegetation on the railway embankment by sunlight by a discarded glass bottle.
The Brigade's Drone Team were deployed to the scene and provided the Incident Commander with an aerial view of the fire.
Control Officers took over 20 calls to this incident and mobilised crews from Homerton, Leyton, Whitechapel and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
The Brigade was called 1810 and the fire was under control by 2042.
