Firefighters have issued a reminder of their ducting safety advice following a fire at a restaurant with dwellings above on Royal Parade in Lee Green.
Half of a ground floor kitchen and a small part of the ducting from first floor to roof level were damaged by the fire. There are no reports of any injuries.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and was caused by a build up of grease in the ducting.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We'd like to remind restaurant and takeaway owners they should ensure they don't have dirty ducting.
"If you don't clean your extraction system regularly, you're at greater risk of ducting fires. You should also make sure you keep the hob, cooker, hood and extractor fan clean too - a build up of fat and grease can ignite and cause a fire."
One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower to help fight the fire from above.
Control Officers took the first of six calls at 0034 and mobilised four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Lee Green, Deptford, New Cross and Greenwich fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0200.
