Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a 14-inch burst water main on Richmond Hill in Richmond.
The fractured water main caused numerous sinkholes. Firefighters installed flood barriers and also used around 50 sandbags to divert surface water away from homes.
The Brigade's 999 Control officers were called at 2204 and crews from Richmond, Kingston, Twickenham and Heston fire stations were in attendance. The incident was over for fire crews by 0146.
