Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to a fire on Arboretum Place, Barking.
The fire occurred in a residential block of 18 floors. The balcony for a flat on the 16 floor was destroyed by the fire. Two people left the building before crews arrived and were assessed on scene for smoke inhalation.
The first of 36 calls reporting the fire was received by the Brigade at 1151. Firefighters from Ilford, Dagenham, Barking and surrounding fire stations were mobilised to the scene. Crews had the fire under control by 1311.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit.
