Sadly, a teenage boy has died following a fire on Cooper's Road in Southwark.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire within a flat on the first floor of a six-storey building. One teenage boy left the building before firefighters arrived and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Tragically, a second teenage boy was declared dead at the scene.

The Brigade’s Control Office took the first call at 1457, fire crews from Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene. A 64m Turntable Ladder from Old Kent Road Fire Station also attended the scene to assist firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control at 1634.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police Service.
