Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Ley Street in Ilford.
Half of the ground floor and most of the first floor of the building were damaged by fire. Three people were assessed on scene for smoke inhalation and two of them were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of nine calls to the fire at 0835 and sent crews from Ilford, Stratford, Barking, East Ham and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0930.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
