The Grenfell Memory Project is dedicated to creating a lasting legacy that aims to honour the 72 lives lost in the Grenfell Tower Fire. It also acknowledges the profound impact of the tragedy on the communities in North Kensington and beyond.
Background
In March 2023, as part of the Civil Settlement Agreement reached with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) claimants, the London Fire Commissioner pledged £8.25 million to fund the Grenfell Memory Project.
The settlement agreement highlights key principles that guide our work:
- Community Consultation: The Grenfell community must be fully consulted on the scope of the Memory Project initiatives, and their support is vital.
- Protection of ADR Claimants’ Interests: The design and implementation of the project must prioritise the interests of the ADR claimants.
Process
To ensure these principles are met, the development of the Grenfell Memory Project will proceed in three phases:
Pre-consultation engagement (February – end of June 2025)
This phase involved working closely with ADR claimants (close family of the deceased, survivors, residents of the Grenfell Walkways, and other claimants) to co-design the Memory Project in alignment with their needs, interests, and aspirations. The feedback received is being analysed by Verve, a specialist agency, and a pre-consultation engagement report is expected soon.

Formal consultation with the wider Grenfell community (early 2026)
The co-designed proposals will then be shared with the broader Grenfell community to gather feedback and secure their support for the projects moving forward.
Decision-making post-consultation (2026)
After collecting feedback, we will collaborate with a recruited group of ADR claimants to finalise recommendations, ensuring that the project aligns with community interests and our responsibilities.
What does ‘close family of the deceased’ mean?
For the purposes of the Grenfell Memory Project ‘close family of the deceased’ refers to the following relatives of those lost in the Grenfell Tower Fire: spouse or partner, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild and family nominated relative.
Ben King, Borough Commander - Kensington and Chelsea
