Think

before you drink

45% of those aged 16-25 who lost their lives to accidental drowning had alcohol and/or drugs in their bloodstream. Many drowned because they walked home alone and fell into the water.

We support the Royal Life Saving Society’s Don’t Drink and Drown campaign. This campaign encourages individuals to take responsibility for their friends when under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs:

  • Watch out for your friends if they have been drinking - stick together and try to avoid routes that take you near water.
  • Never go for a swim or jump into water (from any height) when you’ve been drinking.
  • Don’t be tempted to take short cuts especially if they’re close to the water’s edge and you’re walking in the dark. You could slip and fall in.
