Dog auditions:

the search for well-being dogs

There are a lot of proud pooch owners in the Brigade, so when we held auditions for the important role of well-being dog, there was stiff competition.

The auditions, which were held at New Cross Fire Station, saw Brigade staff bring in their dogs and put them through their paces in a number of tasks. The assessors were looking for dogs who love to meet new people, have excellent temperaments, and aren’t phased by loud noises and big vehicles. And if they enjoy making a fuss - all the better!

What do well-being dogs do?

Wellbeing dogs visit our crews at fire stations to provide a positive distraction and be a calming presence. They’re always accompanied by a Mental Health First Aider, and we’ve already seen some real positives to inviting four-legged friends onto station.

Our newest well-being dogs will be on duty soon!
