Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a fire at a warehouse on St Thomas Road in Belvedere.

Most of the ground floor, first floor and part of the roof of the warehouse were damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

Station Commander Lee McCauley said: "Crews made steady progress at the scene of the fire to bring it under control.

"There were multiple road closures in place in the direct vicinity, which caused disruption for a number of hours.

"The fire was producing some smoke and we urged people to avoid the area where possible and keep windows and doors closed if you live or work nearby."

One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used as an observation tower, providing a vantage point for the incident commanders to assess the incident and develop tactics.

The Brigade's Control Officers took the first call to the fire at 1417 and mobilised crews from Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Greenwich, Sidcup and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control at 1808.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Brigade's Fire Investigation Unit.
