Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire on Warburton Road in Twickenham.

Half of the loft space in a semi detached house was destroyed by fire. A small part of the neighbouring loft was also destroyed by fire. Three people left the house before the Brigade arrived.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and due to a fault within a solar panel inverter.

Firefighters used PVStop on the solar panel. PVStop, is a black liquid polymer coating designed to cover solar panels like a liquid tarpaulin. Stored in an extinguisher, it’s sprayed onto solar panels when crews respond to fires. PVStop works by blocking the sunlight that powers solar panels, so the process of converting light into electricity is stopped, allowing crews to safely respond.

The Brigade's 999 Control officers were alerted to the fire at 1401 and mobilised crews from Twickenham and Heston fire stations. The fire was under control by 1527.
