Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire a flat fire on Godfrey Street in Newham yesterday.
Part of a second-floor flat was damaged by fire. Two adults and two children left the property before the Brigade arrived, they were assessed by the London Ambulance Service at the scene and no injuries were reported.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a fault within a fridge.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not due to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with a product you have bought.
“If your appliance starts making noises or something doesn’t seem right, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.”
The Brigade’s Control Office took the first of 16 calls about the fire at 1613 and sent fire crews from Stratford, Leytonstone and Homerton fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control at 1715.
