Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a small fire at a commercial building on Nutmeg Lane in Blackwall.
The fire was limited to a string of lead acid batteries. There was no further damage to the building and no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received the first call at 04:52 and as the fire was in a high-rise building, mobilised crews from Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham and East Greenwich fire stations to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished by 06:43.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by the failure of one of the lead acid batteries.
