Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with dwellings above on Lea Bridge Road in Leyton.
Half of the ground floor and the void between the ground and first floor were damaged by the fire. Ten people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There are no reports of any injuries.
Control Officers took the first of three calls at 1331 and mobilised crews from Leyton, Walthamstow, Leytonstone and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 1518.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and was caused by an electrical fault.
