Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters were called to a fire on Ripple Road, Barking.

The fire involved the roof of a commercial property and a number of outbuildings, along with an adjacent residential property. The fire has now been brought under control but firefighters will likely remain on scene for several hours in order to fully extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.

Firefighters have safely removed several gas cylinders from the scene. Crews cooled the cylinders to an ambient temperature, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

There have been no reports of any injuries at this time.

Local residents have been advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke being produced by the fire.

This incident is causing significant traffic disruption which is expected to last into this evening.

The A13 Ripple Road remains closed westbound at the junction of Choats Manor Way. Traffic on the A13 is significantly impacted in both directions, and people should plan alternative routes.

The Brigade received the first of over 15 calls reporting the fire at 1308. Crews from Barking, East Ham, Ilford and surrounding fire stations were sent to the scene along with a 32-metre turntable ladder.

The fire was brought under control by 1632.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
