Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Edgware Road.
Most of the ground-floor shop and part of the first and second floors of the building were damaged by fire. A man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
Firefighters located a gas cylinder on the first floor and removed and cooled it to an ambient temperature as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of eight calls to the fire at 0336 and sent fire crews from Paddington, Soho, Kensington, North Kensington and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0453.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
