Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended a fire at a restaurant on Chapel Road in Ilford.

Part of a ground-floor restaurant was damaged by fire, along with ducting running from the ground floor to the roof of the building. Several people safely evacuated from flats above the restaurant and there were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade received the first of three calls at 0356 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Ilford, Stratford and East Ham fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0459.

The fire is believed to have been caused by the unsafe disposal of charcoals from a grill.
