Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended a fire at a block of flats on Sedan Way in Walworth.
A second-floor flat flat was damaged by fire. A man and a woman were rescued from the flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service to be treated for smoke inhalation. Four adults and a child from a neighbouring flat evacuated via a rear garden before firefighters arrived. The child was taken to hospital.
The Brigade received the first of seven calls about the fire at 0513 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Old Kent Road, Dockhead, New Cross, Dowgate, Lambeth and Brixton fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 0559.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
