Fire at house converted into hotel - Stratford

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended a fire on Romford Road in Stratford.

The fire occurred in a house that has been converted into a hotel. A room on the first floor was destroyed by fire. Two people were rescued by firefighters from the first floor via a short-extension ladder. Approximately ten people left the building before firefighters arrived. Three people were assessed on the scene by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. 

The Brigade was called at 0153 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Stratford, Plaistow, Leyton and East Ham fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0322.

The fire is being treated as accidental and believed to have been caused by a lighter which ignited bedding.
