Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a cottage on Hall Lane in Upminster.
Half of the ground floor, part of the first floor and part of the roof were damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene to help fight the fire from above.
Control Officers took the first of three calls at 1044 and mobilised crews from Harold Hill, Hornchurch, Romford and Ilford fire stations to the scene. Two fire engines from Essex Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene. The fire was extinguished by 1246.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined.
