Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire on Sangley Road in Catford.
The fire occurred in a three-storey mixed-use building, with a takeaway restaurant on the ground floor and flats above. The ground floor has been significantly damaged by fire. A small part of the first floor has also sustained damage.
Three people left the property before firefighters arrived. There have been no reports of any injuries.
Road closures were in place in the area, including on Plassy Road (A205 South Circular).
The Brigade received the first of 11 calls at 1103 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, Greenwich, Lee Green, Deptford and New Cross fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 1212.
The fire is being treated as accidental and believed to have been caused by a fault with a deep fat fryer.
