Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a sheltered accommodation block of flats on Commercial Way in Peckham.
Part of a second floor flat in a four storey block was destroyed by fire. One man evacuated the building with on-site staff and was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service. A further ten people were also evacuated by staff before the Brigade arrived on scene.
The Brigade's 999 Control officer received the first of five calls at 1624 and deployed crews from Peckham, New Cross, Brixton and Dockhead fire stations. The fire was under control by 1740.
