Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Myrtle Road in Hounslow.

The rear ground floor of a semi-detached house was completely destroyed as well as the next door neighbour's ground floor conservatory. Thankfully, no injuries are reported.

The property where the fire occurred had no smoke detection fitted.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.

“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”

The Brigade's 999 Control officers received the first of 19 calls at 1138 and deployed crews from Heston, Southall, Chiswick, Richmond, Heston and Twickenham fire stations. Fire crews brought the blaze under control by 1300.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
