Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire on Barking Road, East Ham.
The fire occurred at a mid-terraced house of two floors, which had been converted into flats. A shed, two motorbikes, and the property's front windows were destroyed by the fire. The roof was also damaged in the blaze. Eight people left the building before crews arrived. A woman and child were assessed on scene for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service, before being removed to hospital as a precaution.
One of the Brigade's 32m ladders was deployed to the scene and used to fight the fire from height.
The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of ten calls reporting the fire at 0424, and crews from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking and surrounding fire stations were mobilised to the scene. Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 0615.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
