Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Berwick Street in Soho.
The whole of the staircase between the second and third floors was destroyed. Half of the staircase between the first and second floors was also damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first call to the fire at 1855 and mobilised crews from Soho, Euston, Paddington and Dowgate fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 2059.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by hot works being carried out.
