Sadly a woman has died following a suspected gas explosion at a house on Dumont Road in Stoke Newington.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the two storey terraced house. Part of the basement and a small part of the ground floor were destroyed. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene. One man was also found at the property suffering injuries following the explosion and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

A cordon was put in place. Station Commander Darren McTernan was at the scene, he said: “Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area for most of this morning while investigations into the cause of this incident are carried out.
