Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Bramley Hill in South Croydon.
Part of a second-floor flat in a residential block was damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a man to safety and a further 30 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. A man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first call to the fire at 0340 and and mobilised crews from Croydon, Wallington and Woodside fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0522.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
