Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters attended a fire at a block of flats on Porchester Square in Paddington.

Part of a fifth-floor flat was damaged by fire. Three people were led to safety from the flat by firefighters. Around 50 people left the building before firefighters arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 1442 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Paddington, Kensington, North Kensington and West Hampstead fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Paddington Fire Station also attended and was used an observation tower to provide the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the incident. The fire was extinguished by 1550.

The fire is being treated as accidental and is believed to have been caused by combustibles too close to a heat source.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters recommend that you have a look at our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.

"The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire.”
