Fire at recycling centre - Islington

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been in attendance at a fire near Caledonian Road in Islington.

The fire occurred at an indoor recycling centre, involving an industrial digger and an area of domestic waste. The fire is now under control but crews will remain on scene in order to fully extinguish the fire.

The building was safely evacuated before firefighters arrived and there have been no reports of any injuries at this time.

The Brigade received the first of four calls at 0930 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Holloway, Islington, Kentish Town, Euston and surrounding fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station has also attended. 

The fire was brought under control by 1151.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
