Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a small fire at an underground station in Victoria.

An electrical motor below an escalator was destroyed by fire. The station was evacuated before the Brigade arrived. One man was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

The Brigade was called at 2040 and the incident was over for firefighters by 2158. Fire crews from Lambeth, Chelsea, Soho and Kensington fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by friction from the motor igniting nearby combustible materials.
