Firefighters were called to reports of a fire near Lonsdale Road in Barnes.

Crews attended and discovered a hedge fully alight. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's Control Officers received the first of around 80 calls at 2148. Due to the volume of calls and suggestions from callers that buildings may be involved, Control Officers initially mobilised six fire engines from Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond and surrounding fire stations to the scene. Following an assessment of the situation by firefighters, the incident was scaled down to three fire engines. The fire was extinguished by around 2230.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a stray firework or pyrotechnic flare.
