Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a house fire on Hertford Road in Enfield.

The first floor and the roof of a semi-detached house were destroyed by fire. A woman and a child were out of the property before firefighters arrived. They were assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as a water tower, to tackle flames from height.

Hertford Road was closed between Putney Road and Bullsmoor Lane and people were advised to avoid the area where possible.

The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of 12 calls to the fire at 1521 and mobilised crews from Enfield, Chingford, Edmonton, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1720.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a downlight.
